Easter Cookies Project

Last March some women from iConnect SD thought about ways to tangibly express the love of God to people in downtown San Diego. After much praying and planning, the Easter Cookies Project was born. The idea was to give away beautifully packed cookies with printed Bible verses attached to ribbons during lunch breaks on the days leading to Easter (March 29-30). Soon iConnectSD was mobilizing several teams of people to work together to bake and pack cookies and print Bible verses on the weekends leading to Easter and to participate in the distribution as well.

And so last March 29-30, men and women from iConnectSD along with their friends and partners in downtown San Diego passed out nearly 700 packs of cookies at the Civic Center corridor, the Columbia District, the Port District, Little Italy and other downtown areas. They encountered curious people who asked several questions. Here are some of the conversations we heard this past week:

Q: " Why are you giving away cookies? "
A: " In relation to Easter, we want to bless people by giving away cookies with
the love message of Jesus."

Q: " How much are these cookies?"
A: " They are free."
R: " Free? Oh, wow! Thank you."

Q: "What's the catch?"
A: "There's no catch. They're a free gift just like salvation is from Jesus..."

Q: "Why are you doing this?
A: " A lot of people here in downtown baked these cookies with love to bless others downtown and remind them of God's love for them"
R: "Wow. That is so cool! Thank you. Happy Easter!"

Q: iConnect: " What can we pray for you?"
A: (Jose and Fredrick, both are engineers working in a government office ): " Please pray for peace in our office. Please pray also for our families, for safety, and good health. Thank you."

Q: iConnect: "Brother, here's a little sustenance for your journey..."

Other responses:

" Thank you for doing this. God bless you!"
" Is this sugar-free? I can't eat this, I'm diabetic."
" No, thank you."
"Thank you. Happy Easter to you, too!"

Other highlights:

Some friends from the Cortez District passed out cookies and shared lunches with the homeless in their district on Tuesday and Wednesday (March 30,31).

First Presbyterian Church Downtown also came alongside and delivered Love cookies in their surrounding community from Monday to Thursday of the same week.

One member from our Columbia Prayer Group went out to a shopping center near her home and gave out cookies there along with her daughter.

We pray that the Lord will continue to move in San Diego in many different ways. It is exciting to trust the Lord and see what He is doing.

To all the excellent bakers who lovingly baked and donated cookies for this effort, the joyful packers who put cookies into packs and then into Trader Joe's bags (thanks Trader Joe's for donating the bags!), the donors who graciously contributed finances for this project, and all the beloved distributors who went out in faith and boldness, THANK YOU ALL!

To GOD be the glory for the great things HE has done and will continue to do in our city.
